The Bruised Reed

A bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench. ~ Isaiah 42:3

Today’s devotion is an extension of yesterday’s. It dissects the passage; focusing exclusively on the first part; “A bruised reed shall He not break.”

Jesus came to restore life. He came to raise up the weak. Unlike many earthly dictators (like Hitler, Alexander and Stalin), Jesus became a king through grace and love; rather than force and domination.

So many people feel they are unworthy of this love. They feel they are weak like the reeds. They feel that their sin, their shame, is unjustified for Christ’s sacrifice. Maybe that’s becuase we do not know how to love each other even close to the way that Christ loved everyone.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will learn to love - to seek to raise up each other instead of taking advantage of their weaknesses.
