Can You Hear?

Take heed therefore how ye hear. ~ Luke 8:18

A lot of times we can get caught up in ourselves so much so that we make it all about ourselves. Because of that, we tend not to hear, and that’s unfortunate because we deprive ourselves.

How many times have you found yourself trying to responde to someone before they have even finished talking? You often interrupt them. The other person may be wondering to themselves why they are even talking to begin with.

The same might be true for preachers.

Too often, we make boisterous claims that challege the preacher’s style; i.e. The preacher “does sermons that don’t speak to me,” “needs to be more relational,” “should try to focus more on [enter buzz phrase here],” “should be more like [enter popular preacher here].”

What we are really doing is interrupting the message, which is delivered by God through the preacher. The preacher is a conduit for the Lord’s message.

And we keep interrupting the delivery before it is ever sent.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will take ourselves out of the message and try to hear what is being delivered.
