Veni, Vidi, Vici

He touched her . . . the fever left her. ~ Matthew 4:15

Today’s devotion draws upon the words of Julius Caesar, Veni, Vidi, Vici - which translates to “I came, I saw, I conquered.” Baxter uses these words/actions to describe what happened when our Lord entered Simon’s house.

First, He came into Peter’s house. Peter was in Capernaum, which was removed from his homeland of Bethsaida. Second, He saw Simon’s mother-in-law, who had fallen ill. And finally, he conquered the woman’s fever by removing it instantly. There was no slow healing progressing. He simply made it gone.

As Baxter suggests, something this drastic and divinely originated occurs in our heart when Jesus enters into it. He comes. He sees and He conquers. And with Him, we can do the same in leading others to Him.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will realistically consider if we are allowing Christ to direct our lives in the same way he did in Peter’s home.
