The Tempest Quelled

March 4, 2007 at 8:00 am | In Awake My Heart |

He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. ~ Matthew 8:26

With today’s devotion, Baxter uses the storm in Matthew 8 to describe how the whole episode becomes parabolic. The storm came . . . and it was quelled by Jesus. So it is true for the storms of our heart as well.

Those who walk with Christ along the terrain of earth, should anticipate and even expect there to be storms. Even the most devout Christians surely experience moments or periods of weakness. During that “storm” we are tormented with dismal worries and griefs. But alas, even great storms often end in wonderful solace and peace without notice. That calm derives only by the hand of our Lord.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will remember that even while fierce stroms can cause damage, Christ is always there to quell and calm.
