Our Lord’s Prayer for His Own

I pray for them… ~ John 17:9

In chapter 17 of John, Christ prays for Himself, for His disciples and for all believers. He did this right at the end of our Lord’s ministry on earth. In the first fiver versus, where it says He prays for Himself, he says; “Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.”

Through the rest fo the chapter, Jesus speaks to us mainly in three ways; 1.) in the comfort it gives, 2.) in the purpose it shows, and 3.) in the pattern it sets.

What comfort to know that Christ has prayed and prays for us! And the purpose… where He prays for preservation from moral evil (15), sanctification to the divine will and service (17 and 18), unification into spiritual oneness (21) and our glorification (24).

But finally, think about the PATTERN. His present ministry in heaven is one of intercession - a praying for others.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will discover an earnest sense of “otherism” while in prayer.
