Consecretion to Christ

Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. ~ John 12:3

After reading yesterday’s meditation, we see the benefit of consecration in Christ. Today, Baxter gets more specific and ponders why so few of us actually are so.

True consecration in Christ simplifies life, for it leaves the management to HIM. It also unifies life, for it blends all our motives and activities in one all-controlling aim to please HIM. It purifies life, for it expels all that is disapproved by HIM. It amplifies life, for it gives the divine will spacious fulfillment through us to uplift HIM. And it glorifies life, for it makes us a blessing to others and a praise to HIM.

If I told you that I have something that would make your life simpler, unified, purified, amplified and glorified, how would you respond? Probably with “Yeah right, what’s the catch?”

As learned in today’s devotion, although consecration is little more than handing over everything to Christ, letting go of one’s egotistic drive is no easy task. Baxter aptly describes it as a “super-crisis of the soul” and I think that is very appropriate in this case.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will overcome the super-crisis of our souls and hand it over to Christ.
