The Vital Focus-Point

Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! ~ John 1:29

Today’s devotion contained a quote that I made me stop reading to reflect: “In many places Jesus is preached merely as an idealist, a standard-bearer of high morals; or as a kind of pioneer in things spiritual.”

For some reason, when I read this, I thought to folk heroes like John Henry, Johnny Appleseed and Paul Bunyan. These were all “good guys” who did “good things” for others. Sadly, that is where the similarities between them and Jesus stops.

Jesus didn’t just do good things . . . he is the lamb of God. He is prophet, priest and King. He made the ultimate sacrifice . . . dying for our sins - He is our savior.

On the way home from work today, I listened to two men discuss Biblical issues with callers during their radio show. One comment that was made was to the effect of “how do you go to a church where God is not in attendance?” I think this comment is similar to the quote that made me stop:

“In many places Jesus is preached merely as an idealist, a standard-bearer of high morals; or as a kind of pioneer in things spiritual.”

Alas, in today’s age, it is easy to lump Jesus in with the other folk legends of yesterday - men we did not know. The beautiful thing - though, is that we can know Jesus Christ! He is relevant yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is more than a folk legend.

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will take the time to know and develop our relationships with Jesus Christ.

  1. This is so very true to have a personal relationship with The King. What blessings we receive when we get to know our Lord. A beautiful read indeed. Thank you for sharing and may the Lord continue to bless you and your family. Please keep me in your prayers.
