From Sadness to Gladness

Yesterday, we talked about sadness that is spawned from doubt. Personally, I got a lot of of that concept, so I was glad to see Baxter continue the discussion wiht today’s devotion.
To do so, he continues the example in Luke 24 in which the two men were transformed from sadness of doubt to the gladness of faith (see versus 30-35). When their doubt was erased by certainty, they were overwhelmed with gladness.
As Baxter suggests:
Theirs was also the gladness of fellowship. On arriving at Jerusalem they found all the others rejoising proofs that the Lord was “risen indeed.” It is wonderful to us, when we come into the joy of faith in Christ, to find this bond of glad understanding with others who know Him.
When I did short-term missions in Mexico, we experienced similar events. Many of us who went on the trips were fairly young in our faiths and in our life experiences. Some did not even yet know Christ. Naturally, there was doubt.
However, there were many instances of “Christ-sightings” where we could literally see Christ at work through events, people and the like. These were moments when you knew there was a Master at work. There were many instances where you could point to answered prayer requests that were made just days - even hours - before.
Ultimately, we returned from our missions different people. Some asked Christ into their lives as a direct result of what we witnessed - which in itself was a Christ sighting. But above all, everyone returned home fully convinced and without a speck of coubt.
And for that we were glad.
Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will remove doubt from our lives, and be glad in it.
