Two Prepositions

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ~ Colossians 3:3

After I did yesterday’s post, I went to church. While I was there, I decided to re-read yesterday’s passage for more context. But I read the entire chapter and I was amazed at how direct and appropriately applicable it is for our lives. I highly encourage you to do the same. Click here to do so.

That said, I was glad to see that Baxter chose to focus the next devotion on 3:3. It confused me a little and I wanted to know more. I found an Easter sermon text that presented this idea:

But this is one of those unfortunate times where it just didn’t speak to me. So I sought out more detail on line.

So what is the real meaning of your life? . . . Your life is hid. The very core of your being, the very essence of who you are is hid with Christ in God. Only the risen Lord himself can tell you who you are and what you are called to be. The risen Lord speaks to us in many guises. Christ can come to us as a friend or as a stranger . . . Christ calls each of us by name. Jesus may even interrupt our lives to get our attention. An inconvenient interruption may be the voice of Christ. YOU have been raised with Christ. Charles H. Spurgeon suggested that “[t]he old life is dead. You are dead to it. You will not be consumed by it: you cannot be controlled by it. You have a newer and higher life. Let it have full scope.”

After reading these thoughts, I am left to conclude that it is meant to tell us we have a higher purpose and calling and we must be willing to follow God’s guidance.

Thoughts on this? (That means I am asking for your comments) :)

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we be open to a newer and higher life in Christ.
