The Hidden Life
May 15, 2007 at 7:00 am | In Awake My Heart | No CommentsYour life is hid with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3
After yesterday, when I pretty much went on my own to seek more guidance for this passage, I discovered that today, the discussion continues. A quick peek ahead, and it looks like the next two also deal with Colossians 3:3.
Today, Baxter points out that most of the worldly treasures are hidden. Gold, diamonds, pearls . . . they all require a certain amount of searching and painstaking labor to acquire. But these are merely possessions. There are also mental treasures that are hidden. Emotions and virtues are among the most difficult to decipher and trust. When you finally have them in possession, you feel much more secure.
“But pre-eminently this hiddenness is true of that new life which we Christian believers possess in Christ - that new spiritual life which the Holy Spirit imparted to is when by faith we became savingly united to the Son of God. It is the hidden life of Christ Himself which is introduced into our being.”
Thus, this new life is our most precious secret. In our earthly lives, our bodies might have expiration dates, but our true lives are blessed with externalism. It is hidden from harms’ way.
Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will share our precious secret with those who are without.
