The Church Through the Centuries
May 20, 2007 at 7:00 am | In Awake My Heart, Christian, General Church Related | No CommentsThe Church is the living God. ~ 1 Timothy 3:15
Another devotion lauding how great and amazing the history of the church. Again, I am of little interest. I have briefly studied the historical views of the church and found it to be the same episode over again and again:
Someone gets upset because of corruption and liberalism. Eventually, it leads to a schism and a new church and/or denomination. That’s how we got into the mess we are in today.
Today, it’s no different. We have people - good Christians - who criticize mega-churches, or churches that allow female pastors, or churches who seek to appeal to a different audience by presenting themselves as “different kinds” of Christians.
Seems to me that we spend too much time trying to differentiate ourselves than to realize we are ALL created in the same likeness.
And that’s about all I have to say about that.
Today, my prayer for you and I is not that we learn to “tolerate” our differences, but learn from them.
