Sin . . . Exile . . . Return
June 17, 2007 at 7:00 am | In Awake My Heart | No CommentsThose which had been carried away unto Babylon . . . came again unto Jerusalem and Judah. ~ Ezra 2:1
“In our exile we begin to think about God; the way we have neglected Him, dishonoured [sic] Him, wronged Him. We begin to reflect how patient He has been; how awful is His anger; how sovereign His power. We begin to fear Him; to be troubled about our sin, and to sense that all this calamity has come upon us because of it. We are convicted. We begin to know our need of God, of forgiveness, of salvation. Like the returning exiles of long ago, we come back to look at our life through new eyes, eyes which are sadder and older but wiser. We see the wreckage of what was once so brave and bright and buxom; and we ask, ‘What is left?’”
Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will observer the wreckage in our lives, be done with idols and realize that HE is what’s left. If we have been in exile, maybe today is the day that we return.
