Waterspouts, Waves and Billows

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of Thy waterspouts: all Thy waves and Thy billows are gone over me. ~ Psalm 42:7

Note: This devotion is for June 27 — “Why did the eternal Son of God leave the glories of heaven for the ignominy of that felon’s Cross? Why did He bleed to redeem us? It was because the deep of our human need called to the deep of His divine compassion. And does not the deep of each individual anguish find answer call in the deep of His loving sympathy?”

Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will know that however deep our suffering, God’s divine compassion is much deeper.

Our Hope Relflexively

The hope which is laid up for you in heaven. ~ Colossians 1:5

Note: This devotion is for June 26 — This devotion concludes a series on the idea of hope. We have discussed a lot of what hope is and isn’t and we’ve talked about the idea of what it will be like when we realize that hope in heaven.

Surely, any Christian knows that their hope is that which is in heaven - and it is securely safe from theft. No being or demon can take it away.

But what does that mean for us in the present? As the Apostle John says; “When He (Christ) shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is . . . And every man that hath this hope set upon HIM, purifieth himself even as He is pure. (I John 3:2,3). While we will be like Him in consummation, must we not grow to be like Him now?

What’s more, the “very glory of our hope should increase our pity for those who are without it.

Today, my prayer for you and I is not for either of us. It is for those who are without the hope we share.
