Where and When and Why
August 12, 2007 at 4:06 pm | In Awake My Heart, Holy Spirit, Prayer |From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee; when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. ~ Psalm 61:2
Note: This devotion is from July 23.
Continuing from the previous devotion, let’s consider the way David prays:
Where: From the end of the earth.
When: When my heart is overwhelmed.
Why: Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
There are three great lessons here:
- God in Christ is our immovable Rock and Refuge, cleft to be our hiding place.
- This Rock is “higher” than we are, and high above all the storms.
- We need to be “led” there - and that is what the Holy Spirit does for us in every stormy trial.
Today, I pray that you and I will remember our umbrella of the Holy Spirit for those days of stormy trials.
