Both Sides of the Matter – Reciprocal Aspects

Lydia . . . whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken by Paul. ~ Acts 16:14

Note: This devotion is from September 27 and 28

Everything depends upon God. If we are to be saved, we will be saved. And if we are not to be saved, then we will not be saved.

But this passage reminds us of the human components. “She attended to the things that which were spoken by Paul.” There are many whose hearts are moved upon by the Holy Sprit, yet they refuse Christ; for God never violates the royalty of the human will.

It all depends upon God. But there must be a human response. We must “attend” as Lydia did. Our duty is to accept Christ as He is offered to us in John 3:16 and others.

Therefore, there are two sides. On the divine side, there is the Scripture and its promises. On the human side, there is the total surrender. The same is true of prayer. On the divine side, there is the promise of answer. On the human side, there is the belief.

Today, I pray that you and I when we doubt, we will remember that we believe.

Three Reasons Why

Barnabas and Paul, men that have hazarded their lives (lit: handed themselves over) for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. ~ Acts 15:26

Note: This devotion is from September 26

When we guilty sinners come to Christ for salvation, there are no further conditions to fulfill, so long as we truly repent and receive Him. Yet, we must be handed over to Him and there are three reasons for this.

First, He cannot fully use us until we are fully His. Until this is the case, our self-will continually frustrates His will in our lives. Second, we miss the highest and the best because we do not fully realize the value of our service to Him when it is not the paramount of importance. Finally, our Lord is altogether worthy of our thus handing over completely to Him. This should be the most convincing of all reason.

Today, I pray that you and I will truly and fully hand ourselves over to Him.

Tides Versus Winds

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ~ 2 Chronicles 7:14

Note: This devotion is from September 25

So often we question why things happen. Seemingly good people, states and nations suffer without explanation. Terror, natural disasters, famines, and more strike without explanation.

Well, perhaps here is that explanation.

Imagine if we all headed those words! The tides of God would break on the shores of our national life and there would be a flood-tide of cleansing and salvation. Even in the face of evil and wicked winds, that cleansing tide would flood in!

How?

We must PRAY! The writings of Paul reveal how intense was his own prayer-warfare. All the men and women who have wielded great power for Christ on earth have been men and women of prayer.

Today, I pray that you and I will pray for glorious revival.
